1.7.8. Actions at a road accident (malfunction)If the engine is not started

ATTENTION
If the engine is not started, do not try to get it, towing the car. It can lead to failure or other damages. Moreover, engine start by means of towage, can lead to an overload of catalytic converter of the fulfilled gases and ignition.

If the engine is not scrolled by a starter or scrolled very slowly
1. If the car is equipped with an automatic transmission, transfer the selector to the situation "R" or "N" and include an emergency brake.
2. Check connections of wires with plugs of the storage battery to be convinced that they pure and dense.
3. Include a lamp of illumination of salon. If the lamp burns low or dies away, when the starter is included, therefore, the storage battery is discharged.
4. Check density of connections of wires of a starter.
5. Do not start the engine by towage.
6. Check fuel level in a tank.

7. Check connections of all wires of system of ignition, the coil and spark plugs. Anew connect the disconnected or badly connected connections (fig. 1.139). 8. Check топливопровод in a motor compartment.
Engine start-up from an external source
The storage battery used as an additional source, should have rated voltage of 12 Century.
For car start with the discharged storage battery from an external source in accuracy observe instructions given below.

ATTENTION
The gas allocated by the storage battery during start of the engine, is very explosive. Violation of these instructions can lead to serious damage of the car or a travmirovaniye. If you are not sure of correctness of performance of this operation, address for the qualified help. Automobile storage batteries contain hydrochloric acid. It is poisonous and possesses corrosion action.

1. If the storage battery used as an additional source, is established on other car, be convinced that cars do not concern each other.
2. Switch off all superfluous lighting and the additional equipment on both cars.

3. Connect connecting cables to plugs of the storage battery in the order specified in drawing 1.140. At first connect the end of one of connecting wires to positive (+) to the plug of the discharged battery room of the battery. Then connect other end of this wire to the positive plug (+) the storage battery on other car (used as an additional source). After that, using other connecting wire, connect one its end to the negative (–) the plug of the storage battery of other car (used as an additional source). Then connect other end of this wire to the block of cylinders of the engine of the car with the discharged battery, in a place which is most removed from the storage battery. Do not connect a connecting cable to mobile details of the engine.
4. Start the car engine with the battery which is used as an additional source, and let's to the engine work idling within several minutes. It will provide complete additional charge of this storage battery. During start of the engine support turns of the engine of the car which storage battery is used as an additional source of a current, at level of 2000 mines-1.
5. Start the car, using operations for normal start of the engine. After the engine will be got, do not remove connecting wires and let's to the engine work idling or at level of 2000 mines-1 within several minutes.
6. Accurately remove connecting wires in sequence, their return installation. At first remove a connecting cable from negative plugs, and then from the positive.
If the engine overheated
1. Turn off the road and stop the car in a safe place.
2. Transfer the selector to the situation "R" ("Parking") (an automatic transmission) or the gear shifting lever in the provision of neutral transfer and turn on the parking brake. If the conditioner works, switch off it.
3. If cooling liquid flows from under the car or from under a cowl there is a steam, switch off the engine. Do not open a cowl while cooling liquid will not cease to flow from under the car or from under a cowl pairs will not cease to go. If there are no visible signs of a leak of cooling liquid, do not switch off the engine and be convinced that the fan of a radiator of system of cooling works. If it does not work, switch off the engine.
4. Check existence of a belt of a drive of the pump of cooling liquid. If it on a place, check force of its tension.
5. If the driving belt or the pump of cooling liquid are faulty, or there is a leak of cooling liquid, immediately switch off the engine and address for the help to experts.

ATTENTION
Do not open a radiator stopper, while the engine hot. There can be an emission of boiling cooling liquid.

6. If the reason of an overheat is not found, wait, while the temperature of cooling liquid of the engine does not become normal. If there was a leakage of cooling liquid, accurately remove a stopper of a radiator and add cooling liquid to a half of a mark of level of liquid in a broad tank.

ATTENTION
Strong decrease in level of cooling liquid testifies to leak existence in cooling system.
