2.1.7. Check of concentration of antifreeze

Measure specific weight of cooling liquid by means of the areometer (fig. 2.7). Take temperature of cooling liquid and define concentration of antifreeze taking into account dependence between specific weight and temperature on the basis of data of the provided table.
Example: the temperature of safe operation makes–15 °C when the measured specific weight makes 1,058 g/cm3 at temperature of cooling liquid of 20 °C.
Recommended cooling liquid
If concentration of antifreeze is lower than 30 %, anticorrosive properties of cooling liquid considerably decrease.
If concentration more than 60 %, raises temperature of crystallization of antifreeze (efficiency of heat exchange decreases), influencing adversely the engine. Therefore be convinced that level of concentration of antifreeze is in limits of the specified range.
Do not mix antifreezes of different trademarks.
